Australian Consul-General to Chicago

Michael commenced his term as Australian Consul-General to Chicago in April 2015. Representing the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for the Australian Government across eleven Midwest states in the United States, Michael is responsible for managing engagement with diverse stakeholders across business, government and academia.

Michael is a career officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, having previously worked at Australian diplomatic missions in Mexico City, New Delhi, Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as his most recent role as Director of the West Australian state office for DFAT.

Michael has also worked in many areas at DFAT in Canberra, including trade (bilateral, APEC, WTO and Free Trade Agreements), economic issues (including as Director, International Economic Section) and a range of bilateral country relations.

Michael was born and was educated in Western Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in Philosophy (University of Western Australia) and a Graduate Diploma in Finance and Investment (Australian Securities Institute).

He is married and has two sons.
