My Story Luncheon

Baker & McKenzie,
300 East Randolph Street, Suite 5000,
Chicago IL 60601

The Board of ANZACC Midwest would like to invite members and friends to the next event in the fantastic “My Story” Luncheon Series proudly presented by Baker & McKenzie.

The series – featuring C-level Australian and New Zealand executives who are based in the Midwest – will highlight the personal and professional journeys of some of our most successful human exports.

We’re delighted to welcome Jim Richards and Daniel Thomas.

Jim Richards – USA Director, Jindilli

Jim Richards is USA Director of the new Australian Skin Care Company “Jindilli” that has created macadamia oil based lotions with outstanding efficacy on damaged, spotted and aging skin along with Macadamia milk and a range of whole-grain beverages.

Jim previously ran Sanitarium Health Food Co NZ, built and operated a Peanut Butter plant in Papua New Guinea, owned an amphibious tourist bus venture in Sydney called ”Aussie Duck” and was a partner in Specialty Cereals (Vogels’ & Wild Oats) until they were purchased by Kellogg’s Australia. Prior to moving to the USA Jim managed MIA, a Macadamia processing company and also managed a cold press macadamia oil company in northern NSW (where the Jindilli lotions were developed and trialed).

More recently Jim has operated in several Creata Ventures investments before taking the role in Jindilli.

Jim believes life demonstrates it is hard to resist being energized by involvement in movement, momentum and achievement.  Using the power of “crusade” (purpose filled activity) to unleash the remarkable potential latent in us all creates good business.

Daniel Thomas – Chief Executive, Tourism Solutions

Headquartered out of Chicago, Daniel hailed from New Zealand in 2007 to take over the General Manager’s position of John Hancock Observatory. Under his leadership, he rejuvenated the brand, significantly boosted attendance and financial performance, and drove innovation in Chicago’s highly competitive tourism market with the creation of Skating in the Sky, the world’s highest synthetic skating rink. Daniel has played a leadership role for the World Federation of Great Towers since 2005, where he was elected to their Executive Committee while running Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand.

Since relocating to Chicago, Daniel has also been elected to the Board of Directors of the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association, is active on their finance committee and Co-chairs their Marketing division for The Magnificent Mile. In addition, he recently Co-chaired the Illinois Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

Prior to moving to the US he held senior management positions within two of New Zealand’s leading public companies – Air New Zealand and SKYCITY Entertainment Group. In July 2011, Daniel founded Tourism Solutions, a tourism and attractions consulting firm aimed at helping tourism businesses with their strategy, brand, marketing and optimal operational and financial performance.
